Built-in fireplaces – Which fireplace should I choose?

A modern fireplace is often characterized by clean lines and largest possible view of the flames - an the perfect focal point in your livingroom. It is no longer used as the main heating source of your home, but as a supplementary to cut heating costs and to create warm and cozy evenings. To find the right design, size and look for your future fireplace, it is important to consider how it fits your dreams AND your living space.

Built-in fireplaces in the wall

Many people want a “fireplace in the chimney” - a fireplace insert integrated into the existing chimney or flush with the wall in the firewall – a minimalist construction, with clean and sharper lines, which also saves a lot of floor space. Unfortunately, there are a number of structural regulations which must be followed, which means that a little innovative thinking is needed to achieve this solution. An existing pipe or chimney is considered to be a load-bearing structure in a home, which means that it is neither legal nor possible to remove certain parts of it.

To achieve that clean, elegant look of a fireplace insert integrated into the chimney, the insert is therefore installed either in front of or on one side of the chimney. It is also possible to use an adjacent room behind the wall, or to simply build out the entire wall from floor to ceiling so that it is flush with the chimney.

The discreet and exclusive series of built-in inserts are fitted with a black glass door. The glass handle completes the design and the clean lines, and remains cool for as long as the fire is lit.

What sets the models apart is a broader view of the flames. The inserts spread warmth in an optimal way and give you a widescreen view of the flames.

These fireplace inserts are perfect if you want to install a new fireplace in an existing open fireplace. The size is adapted to the standard dimensions of traditional fireplaces, which simplifies the installation process. You can also order cover frames to go around your fireplace insert, customized to suit your needs.

Corner fireplaces

A corner fireplace can be built into a corner and create a cozy nook in a room, or installed in an external corner. Many people want a fireplace which offers a good view of the flames, but does not take up too much space.

Many Scan stoves fireplace inserts have glass on several sides and are therefore also ideal for building into an external corner, so that you can see the flames from around the room. With these solutions, either the new fireplace is built into the side of the chimney, or the room behind is used to house the fireplace insert itself.

Fireplaces as a room divider

A fireplace can divide a large room into two, be an eye-catching feature and create a sense of cosiness and warmth in two areas at once. How about a fireplace with glass on three sides which lights up both the sofa corner and the dining room - or perhaps gives an enchanting show of dancing flames in both the kitchen and the lounge at the same time?

Double sided fireplaces

Fireplaces which are visible from both sides have also become very popular in recent years. They can be installed between two rooms, so that you can see through the fireplace and enjoy the flames from both sides. Alternatively, they can be installed as a room-divider or as a beautiful design element in the center of the room.

The clever thing about the Scan DSA 12 is that you can see through it and it has a large glass door on both sides. The fireplace insert can be opened from either side, or you can lock the door that you use least often. The view of the flames is completely unobstructed by internal components.

Every single tiny detail of this beautiful product is elegant and innovative in its design. The Scan DSA 12 has a functional door handle which is flush with the front of the insert.

The insert is narrow and just as perfect either as a room-divider or installed between two rooms. It’s like having a living painting on the wall and the heat from it spreads throughout the room.
